Islands of Hyères : Which island to choose ? Porquerolles, Port-Cros or Levant

We take you to the islands of Hyères also called Golden Islands, off the coast of Hyères in the south of France or rather we explain to you how to find yourself in paradise only a few miles from the Var coast. Porquerolles Island, Port-Cros Island and Levant Island, 3 dream islands that do not require a long-haul flight to reach! You just have to take a shuttle from the mainland. So, are you ready to explore islands that look like the end of the world?

But be careful not to choose the wrong island. We give you here our experience feedbacks and a lot of advices to help you to choose the right island with our favorite hikes and beaches, where to eat and where to sleep on the islands of Hyères.

Back on a short spring week spent on the islands of Hyeres. An unforgettable stay which is part of an itinerary along the Mediterranean. After the south of Corsica, Nice, Cannes and its islands, the Estérel and the gulf of Saint-Tropez, we are looking forward to discover these 3 new islands of the south.

Even if it only takes 15 minutes from the port of the Tour Fondue on the Giens peninsula to reach Porquerolles, a crossing to the islands of Hyères is always a real trip. Once on the Golden Islands, one has the impression of being far from everything. The captain of the boat confides to us that he regularly crosses the path of dolphins. The cherry on the cake reserved for the lucky travelers

We spent a week on the 3 islands of Hyères and on the advice of Nicolas from the Tlv-Tvm boat company, we were able to find the best spots, take the most beautiful hiking trails, test some welcoming addresses and meet some of the 3 islands' most important people.

Each of the 3 islands of Hyères that make up the archipelago has its own personality and it would have been a shame to stop only at the most famous one, Porquerolles, which certainly has the most beautiful beaches, but which is also the most touristic island.

Almost all the tourists who visit the islands of Hyères do so by day, especially Porquerolles and Port-Cros. If you have the opportunity, stay at least 1 night on these islands. You will see that at the end of the afternoon, when the last tourist leaves the port, the island becomes silent again and a completely different atmosphere emerges.

As for the island of Levant, a military zone on its almost totality, its eastern tip shelters all the same a naturist village called Heliopolis. A perched village where nudity is allowed as soon as the temperature allows it, in the greatest respect and the greatest tolerance. A state of mind and a way of life that attracts a lot of tourists especially in July and August. We also come back on our stay in the Levant in this post of our travel blog simplelive.us.

1. What to do in 1 day on the island of Porquerolles? - The islands of Hyères on the nature side

Porquerolles island, with its 1254 hectares is the biggest of the 3 islands of Hyères. It is also the most populated. 7 km long and 2.5 km wide, this piece of land culminates at 142 m altitude. A piece of land which is moreover an extension of the Maures massif and which offers 54 km of hiking trails. You might as well say that you can't see everything in one day.

In the shape of a crescent, the island of Porquerolles invites you to travel as soon as you disembark, after a twenty-minute crossing only. Porquerolles reminds us of those far away, tropical islands, sheltering hidden treasures and dreamy beaches that we love so much. Unfortunately we did not find any treasure abandoned by an ancient pirate here, but we did find some beaches that deserve the adjective "paradisiacal".

The island of Porquerolles has 2 radically different coasts. You can see it by hiking or biking. A jagged coastline in the south with impressive cliffs falling into the blue immensity and in the north, facing the mainland, a much softer coastline where sandy beaches follow one another. Then in its lands, it is between forest of pines, scrubland and feet of vineyards that we lose ourselves.
