Indeed, the hotel budget is the biggest part of the global budget of a trip to New York. The Big Apple, already very visited for years, is currently undergoing a very strong tourist growth. The prices of the rooms soar very quickly with each event. We're going to give you some tips on how to book your hotel nights in New York at the right time and introduce you to 5 establishments we tested during our first 10-day trip to New York, in September 2019.

Let's start with some practical tips on where to sleep in New York and when to book.

1. Practical advice for sleeping in New York

There are so many neighborhoods to sleep in New York City and the number of establishments is impressive. The city is so huge! However, the accommodation budget is really important to plan and to calculate because the prices are not cheap unless you find a shared accommodation. And this is not possible in all areas...

For a first trip or a short stay, Manhattan and its verticality is ideal. The surroundings of Times Square to be precise. You leave your hotel and you are immediately in a movie with your head in the air. And then, everything is accessible on foot or in a few minutes of subway.

Brookyn as the other main districts of New York, we recommend it either for a second stay in New York or in case of a week at least in the Big Apple.

Brooklyn, we stay there to discover its history and its culture, the street art but also the view on the Manhattan skyline from some hotel roof tops like the one we recommend you a little further down. The area is far from downtown and major tourist attractions but it is easily accessible by subway. You will find rooms at more affordable rates than in Manhattan. The same goes for Queens, for example.

2. Where to sleep in New York ? At CitizenM Times Square for the Spirit

CitizenM is a hotel chain that we love for its concept of accessible luxury and inspiring design. When you enter the 21-story building through the carousel door on the first floor, you immediately enter a typically New York universe with a very well thought-out decoration and staging.

The counter is a UFO. The registration is automated but the human touch is not put aside. The welcome is even very friendly. It is as if we arrived in a huge loft with its TV lounge, its bar and its high tables and its dining area. There is even a glass roof. We quickly feel at ease to work or relax.

We quickly reach the 18th floor. The magnetic card touches the lock of our room. The door opens. Our 10 days trip to New York really starts at this moment.
